De Royan Newsletter Winter 2010  Afrikaans

   Dear wine friends & family

Wow, what a winter!  Those that had the privilege of attending FIFA World Cup Soccer matches at one of the beautiful soccer stadiums, a Fan Fest in our country, or even watching games at home with family and friends, will know that this winter was one of vibrant colours, bee-hive buzzing vuvuzela sounds, rampant cheering and joyful festivity amidst the chill of our South African winter.  I think that the 2010 winter will be remembered by our generation as one of the most celebratory seasons of all time!

  Lelienfontein Vine Nursery

Our vineyards are taking a well deserved break this winter, but in between all the soccer games, our vine nursery, Lelienfontein, has been bustling with activity as we are entering our vine season. Our nursery is regarded as the most successful family owned vine nursery in the Southern Hemisphere and was established in 1888.  We are fortunate to have accumulated generations’ worth of knowledge and experience in vine growing, site selection and to have the ability to source from a wide variety of plant material.  That is why you can expect to drink a Rosé made from 27 different grape varieties sourced from our vineyards, because we have that many varietals growing in our vineyard garden in Hermanus! Do read more about the 2010 vintage Rosé, which will be released on the 4th of September 2010, during our release weekend.

Bosman Release Weekend – 4 September 2010

Get out your calendar. Go to the 4th of September. Write down: “Bosman Release Weekend.  11h00-16h00”. We would love to host you at Lelienfontein for our maiden annual release weekend. Come enjoy a leisurely day on Lelienfontein, tasting wines paired with delicious canapés at various stations inside the exclusive 250 year old cellar while listening to the enchanting sounds of Veronica & Ludmila of Zamar.  This unique opportunity will provide a glimpse inside the family’s 8th generation vine to wine story and promises to be a discovery in the synergy between Bosman Family Vineyards and Lelienfontein Vine Nursery.  If our wine & canapé tasting has your tastebuds yearning for more, a cozy lounge area will be available to enjoy delectable gourmet treats with wine by the glass or bottle from our private tasting room. Costs are R250 per person & R 150 per person for Bosman Wine Club members.  RSVP with Carla at carla@bosmanwines.com before 15 August 2010.

The following wines will be released on the day:

Bosman Rosé 2010:

The Bosman Release Weekend is a good opportunity for you to see how we have been hard at work to give you a cellar door experience at Bosman Family Vineyards that will be memorable.  However, if you can not attend our release weekend, we would like to invite you to visit us at Lelienfontein in Wellington to experience it for yourself.  Booking is essential and we can take groups of up to 12 people.  Remember that there is no charge involved for Bosman Wine Club members and you are welcome to invite your friends.

For those of you involved in the corporate environment, we have also equipped ourselves to host groups of up to 12 for executive meetings if you have the urge to get away from your usual environment to think outside the box.

   No excuses!

As you know, at Bosman Family Vineyards we would like to solve your problem of being without good quality wine.  However, we recently received this video on how to open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew and thought that it might be another handy solution to a problem!

   Epilogue

It was Don Millar who wrote in his book Blue like Jazz:

“I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn’t resolve.  But I was outside the Bagdad theater in Portland one night when I saw a man playing the saxophone.  I stood there for fifteen minutes, and he never opened his eyes.

After that I liked Jazz music.

Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself.  It is as if they are showing you the way”

With the FIFA World Cup Soccer 2010 being something of the past, I would like to thank all 32 participating teams for “showing us the way” and helping us love soccer.  As a country we needed this.  It has brought us together. It has opened our eyes and the eyes of the world to our beautiful country, its people and all its wonderful possibilities.

To South Africa!
