Respect was the keyword when restoration and building took place and all existing building elements from the past, such as walls of the old kraal, open cement fermentation tanks, roof structures and rough walls were treasured and incorporated in the design in very ingenious ways.
Restoration on the cellar started in 2006 and retained the existing 18th century style in the overall building process. Although the cellar’s purpose changed over time with farming activities on Lelienfontein, the design of the new cellar steered the construction in a direction that provides the new building with its particular qualities.
Space was skilfully used and the historic barrel cellar will now again have purpose and will be used with modern, carefully hidden services. The old production cellar will now operates as the tasting room and open cement fermentation tanks will host the vinotheque.
Attention to detail and stylish architecture, as well as its tie with our past is what separate this cellar from any other. Old and new happily marries in the Lelienfontein cellar where our enchanting wines are carefully crafted by our accomplished winemaker. |
